Finally is out, so I can show some of the things I did at the end of 2013!

This is only a part of the game, there are more birds and scenarios in the actual game.

And today, I'm not writing that much, but there's a lot to come!

Not feeling like working sketch

Sometimes working only on work-related projects is hard. This morning I really really needed do sketch something with no meaning. 20 minutes only for me!

Epicondyliaaaaaaaaaa

…is the monster that hunts tennis players and spreads the disease commonly called "tennis elbow". 

Well, guess what tennis players, I'm now renaming this disease "drawer elbow", 'cause I don't want to explain every time that, no, I don't play tennis, but I draw. And, yes, it's a real job, it's very consuming and it can lead to diseases. 

All, this to say that I have been stuck with my personal work in the last 3 months because of the pain and I didn't even feel of updating the blog. I kept on working only on the studio's projects while doing physiotherapy and this is the result:

At the studio, I've been working very hard despite the pain and soon the new game I worked on before Christmas will be released, and I'll be able to show you some of the images.
Let's just say that there will be a lot of feathers and twitters and…you got it!
As I'm not posting since months, I'll add to this hints an old test I did for the studio, almost an year  ago. It's not my favorite things in the world, but it was the second time, I think, I was trying to color in a vectorial style and the result is definitely not brilliant, even if I still like his expression :D

Meet Bonnie

I haven't been able to update the blog, but I have some health issue that is bothering me and because of this I'm very very in late in introducing you to…Bonnieeee!!!

This is the trailer of the new game I worked on. Concept and half of the scene by me, the other half, editing and the choice of the (horrible, horrible) music by my super talented colleague Giacomo.

The game is called "Archaeologist-Ice age" and it's the sequel of "Archaeologist-Jurassic life" that featured Bonnie's husband. If you have children, you can download it here. 

Following some of the studies for the Bonnie that we choose. I'll post some other studies in the future, along with some of the dinosaurs! Uuuuuuhuuuuuh!

Update to Drawtober-Inktober

I've been so busy lately that I haven't found the time to update the blog. In the next days I'll post a lot cause there are a lot of news.
October has been a very very tiring and busy month, so I haven't been able to attend the Inktober and Drawtober initiatives with regularity. Especially the second half of the month.

The main theme seems to be…chicks and aliens. I wonder if there's some reason (except the Drawtober specifications). 

Actually there's one more ink sketch, but  I don't find the file (when I'm so tired, I become also messy), so you can  see it on my Tumblr, that I'm still not using a lot. I don't care if Blogspot is not modern anymore and the new trend is Tumblr. I'm old. I like Blogspot.

Inktober week 2

Questa settimana la salute non mi ha aiutato. Sono stata stanca e acciaccata (causa ripresa yoga) e soprattutto ho avuto mal di testa per tre giorni di seguito. I risultati si vedono, l'assenza completa di ispirazione è la cosa che più danneggia i disegni.
Ma io resisterò!!! Sìììì!!!!! Vedremo cosa succede la prossima settimana. Ho pensato anche a darmi qualche tema...ma quando si è sconcentrati non c'è molto da fare. 
(Il mac mi segna la parola "sconcentrati" come errore. Sono ignorante io o lui?)

 Per il primo disegno ho usato la penna magica (vedi post precedente) per gli altri una Stabilo OHPen e qualche penna-pennello o pantone nero.

October...il mese in cui apparentemente devi fare qualcosa. Per forza.

Herzlich wilkommen!

Oggi non mi va di scrivere in inglese, quindi cari stranieri arrangiatevi. In ogni caso non è che abbia perle di saggezza da elargire a nessuno, quindi probabilmente sto solo salvando qualche malcapitato dai miei sproloqui.

Allora, questo mese ho fatto un sacco di cose bellissime e interessanti ed essendo un periodo un così positivo ho deciso di cominciare un'impresa che mi portasse via tempo e soprattutto che accentuasse in maniera decisiva il mio dolore al braccio.

Ci sono due iniziative in rete, Inktober e Drawtober. La prima consiste nel disegnare ogni giorno qualcosa con l'inchiostro. La seconda è promossa da Autodesk su Da e consiste nel disegnare con Sketchbook il tema del giorno. Per tutto il mese di ottobre. Non capisco perché oltreoceano pensano che a ottobre non si faccia niente...hey yankees, qui in Europa lavoriamo!! Ho pensato di provare a vedere se reggevo una settimana. Ce l'ho fatta, con gravi danni, ma ce l'ho fatta!

E' risaputo che l'inchiostrazione non è il mio forte, sono una specie di unno del pennino, un hooligan del pennello di martora e soprattutto ho difficoltà a vedere in bianco e nero. Questa è stata una delle mille motivazioni per cui ho deciso di non avvicinarmi al fumetto bonelliano. 

Però però però, mi sono divertita un sacco. I primi 3 disegni sono fatti col pennarello-pennello (non so come si chiama), ce l'avevo lì, non lo usavo da anni e ho deciso di provare a usarlo così, in libertà. Niente disegno a matita sotto, niente premeditazione su cosa fare. Direi che si vede, quella tazza e in particolare il piattino sono una delle cose più brutte mai viste. Ma non importa, sono disegni fatti in meno di un minuto. La cosa che mi ero dimenticata è il rumore del pennarello sulla carta. Che meraviglia.

Gli altri due sono fatti con la mia fedelissima penna magica ( una pentel con cui chiunque disegna bene). E' il mio medium per il disegno preferito in assoluto. Erano mesi che non la usavo. Penna magica I love u!

Il nuovo piccolo, irrisorio, microscopico, insignificante problema è che, a forza di disegnare solo al computer, ho perso il senso della prospettiva (reale!) disegnando sul foglio e quindi questi due disegni mi sono venuti allungati e storti. Me ne sono accorta sono guardandoli sul monitor. E che sarà mai...un dettaglio!

Drawtober

In realtà qui non sono stata del tutto assidua, ho saltato la giornata di oggi e...venerdì credo... 

Avevo già disegnato con Sketchbook Pro in passato e devo dire che mi piace molto. La matita base è morbidosa e vengono sempre bei disegni. Peccato però che tutti gli altri tools non abbiano la sensibilità alla pressione della penna, quindi è impossibile inchiostrare decentemente (che nel mio caso è cmq un livello scarsissimo come abbiamo già appurato) e anche colorare, essendo abituati a Photoshop...è come regredire nel passato. 

Proprio per questo probabilmente non continuerò questo contest tutti tutti i giorni. Dopo 8 ore di lavoro, non mi va di impiccarmi con un programma che ha così tante limitazioni.

Voglio invece continuare Inktober sia per riacquistare la capacità di disegnare a mano sia per divertirmi un po' con penne, pennarelli e pennini.

Ah, le cose di Drawtober le sto postando su Da, mentre quelle di Inktober su Tumblr per tutta la faccenda dei tag. Questa questione dei siti internet sta sfiorando il ridicolo, non riesco nemmeno a starci dietro. Tumblr, poi, non lo capisco proprio! Per non farmi mancare niente ho aperto anche Behance, dove non ho avuto tempo di mettere praticamente niente. Alla fine a me piace questo blog...anche se blogspot non va più di moda...sono vecchia nell'animo? Beh, almeno non ho Twitter. Siete salvi!

Buildings and backgrounds

I don't really know where to start with this post, sooo I guess I'll just start from the most recent drawings to go to the oldest.
As the title says, we're talking about buildings and backgrounds.

These are a couple of shacks that are always fun do draw. I did these during my holidays using grey markers, then I added the colors digitally.

My first task in the new studio I'm working for was to add characters and backgrounds to an old game they produced an year or two ago. I also had to modify and integrate the UI that is soooo out of my comfort zone. Anyway, I'm not that displeased with the result, considering that it was the first time I did that.

But, back to business, these are the two backgrounds for the new levels I did. To match the rest of the game I had to keep it very simple, as it is meant to be for children. It's all vectorial art as you see, not my favorite, but I'm getting used it.

I'll show some of the characters in some future post.

These are a background and buildings that I did an year ago for the Level Rewind game company. As the game hasn't be released yet, I'm showing only these images because they're already available on the Facebook page of the studio. 
This has been a real pain for me, in the beginning I didn't understand exactly my employer's vision. So at first I created an environment with the three buildings that you see above, but it didn't convince because I wanted to have a certain fluidity being the game a running game. So, as the main idea was to have a red carpet...I just did it. I have to say that I still like it...very weird considering that usually I get bored of my own drawing after one or two days.
I saw that in the process it has been strongly modified, as the characters, so I'm very curious to see the final result!

Friendly post

This is the proof of what a bad friend and person I am. Years and years ago my Super BFF in the all World was watching with me Kei Phillips illustrations and she said "Oh, I would like a pin-up portrait with this style".
And of course I said...

Back at that time I didn't know how to use vectors, I was super busy and I didn't find the time to finish a drawing. But I had the challenge, so year after year I kept on working a little bit on it. 
And this is the result.

Not very happy with the bkg of the first one, I'll maybe reconsider one of the hundred options I rejected.

And, yes, the expressions are a little different. The original one was the vintage one, but after closing that file, I wondered why she looked so sad and I changed it a little bit in the color version.

This, instead, is a quick one I did this week to play around a bit with Isabella, who got herself stuck in one of those useless fb debates. 

As the main theme of this post is friends, this is another one I did some months ago for a friend of mine who had a baby.

I guess it's enough!

Mosquito

Soooooo, I haven't been posting for a while, but it's super hot and it's hard been in front of the computer. And well, I've been busy...doing stuff (and things XD)... like this.

Finally tonight, I was ready to work a lot and, instead, that's what I found myself doing 

I swear this mosquito is crazy. It keeps flying around me changing direction continuously without a purpose. Sting me and go the fuck away!
